High blood pressure: A tasty bean that may lower your reading and reduce risk of disease

High blood pressure is a serious health problem as it puts a person at risk of heart disease – the leading cause of death in the world. Eating this delicious type of bean, however, has been proven to naturally lower pressure and reduce risk of serious diseases. What is it?

Leading health experts recommend eating more mung beans as they are known to help lower blood pressure.

Mung beans are an excellent source of potassium, magnesium and fibre.

Studies have shown that each of these nutrients help to significantly lower the risk of high blood pressure.

Numerous studies have indicated a diet rich in legumes, such as beans, lowered blood pressure in both adults with and without high blood pressure.

In a study with the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, the effects of dietary pulses on blood pressure was analysed.

Current guidelines recommend diet and lifestyle modifications for primary prevention and treatment of hypertension, but do not encourage dietary pulses specifically for lowering blood pressure (BP),” noted the study.

It continued: “To quantify the effect of dietary pulse interventions on BP and provide evidence for their inclusion in dietary guidelines, a systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled feeding trials was conducted.

The study concluded that dietary pulses significantly lowered blood pressure in people with and without hypertension.

Mung bean protein is the key ingredient in a plant-based alternative to scrambled eggs.

This liquid product also contains canola oil and natural colours from carrots and turmeric, along with other ingredients.

When the beans are cooked, they resemble scrambled eggs, and reviewers say the taste is similar too.

Mung beans contain medicinal properties such as protection against heat stroke and have been shown to help reduce cholesterol.

In another study published in the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, the vivo antioxidant and hypolipidemic effects of fermented mung beans on hypercholesterolemic mice was analysed.

The study noted: “Legumes have previously been reported with hypolipidemic effect caused by the presence of flavonoid. 

“Fermented mung beans were found to reduce the level of serum lipid and liver enzyme profiles of hypercholesterolemic mice.

“Furthermore, liver antioxidant and nitric oxide levels were also significantly restored by fermented mung bean in a dosage dependent manner.” 

Other ways to naturally lower blood pressure

The NHS explains: “Being active and taking regular exercise lowers blood pressure by keeping your heart and blood vessels in good condition.

“Regular exercise can also help you lose weight, which will also help lower your blood pressure.

“Adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as cycling or fast walking, every week.

“Physical activity can include anything from sport to walking and gardening.”
